KISOKWE, TANZANIA, November 2, 2015 – This week, ZeroBase announced the installation of it’s latest solar hybrid product innovation, the K-SERIES, at Kisokwe Primary School in the Mpwapwa District of Dodoma, Tanzania. Commissioned and unveiled on the 22nd of October in a ceremony attended by school and government officials alike, the system will be providing electricity for the school to extend operating hours and allow for night education and training courses, as well as modernizing the school’s curricula with laptops and projectors.
In February of this year, key members of ZeroBase and partner company Lighting Science Group (LSG) met with the Tanzanian government in Dar es Salaam and collectively agreed to install an off-grid hybrid power solution at a rural school as a demonstration of ZeroBase and LSG’s solutions. The project was managed by the Tanzanian sustainable energy company, Sustenersol, and LSG provided energy-efficient LED lighting for the school, while ZeroBase designed, produced, and installed the K-SERIES system to power the lights and other necessities at the school.
The K-SERIES installation at Kisokwe is the first of its kind. This easy-to-operate, lowmaintenance solution was specifically designed for rural electrification applications and incorporates state-of-the-art technology utilized by other ZeroBase clients, including the U.S. Department of Defense.
Reports from employees in the field indicate that the installation went smoothly, and initial reaction to the system and the new opportunities opened to the community of Kisokwe have been uniformly positive. Given a total project time of approximately eight months from proposal to installation, ZeroBase has proven its ability to quickly deploy an effective, efficient solution that will make a measurable impact on the community for years to come.
